A drink for your Boomin' summer!

A drink for your Boomin' summer!

12 July 2019

Tequila - it’s the spirit to put some BOOM in your drink this summer, but it’s not just a party shot. With the rise of hand-made, craft tequilas and mezcals, it can be a serious sipping spirit, or the main ingredient for some deliciously refreshing cocktails.

But first: Tequila vs Mezcal - what’s the difference? Let us break it down for you!

Mezcal is the name for Mexican alcoholic drinks distilled from the agave plant (the one that looks like a giant cactus); and Tequila is a type of Mezcal made only from the Blue Agave, and made in the region surrounding the town of Tequila.

Learn something new every day, eh? Check out below a simple recipe for the classic Paloma that packs a punch, perfect for your summer pow-wows (and surprise your guests with an option other than G&T in your garden this time!)

The Pow-Wow Paloma

Using just a few simple ingredients, this is destined to be your new summer favourite. The Paloma is also a really versatile drink as you can use whichever tequila comes to hand - a tequila blanco will provide a fresher taste, and an aged tequila or mezcal will add a more savoury, smoky touch. All the possibilities!

50ml Tequila
10ml Lime juice
10ml Agave/sugar syrup
60ml Pink grapefruit juice
Soda water

Method

  • Shake the first four ingredients well with ice
